GTB poll reveals huge support for staff training on sustainability

Thu, 16/12/10

Greening the Blue’s latest on-line poll asked if all UN staff should receive mandatory training on in-house sustainability practices. Exactly 275 votes were cast, and the results reveal that a huge majority - 95% - supports the idea of mandatory training.

A number of UN agencies have already developed training courses on sustainability, or are in the process of doing so. This new poll result gives an added boost to these organisations, and may inspire others to develop something similar, specific to the needs of their staff.

Meanwhile, steps are being taken to create a UN-wide training module.  This is being developed by a Working Group established at the recent meeting of the Issue Management Group on Sustainability Management, held in New York in November 2011. During the meeting there was a clear demand for a basic training module from the majority of UN organisations, and the Working Group has committed to report back in 2011.
