IFAD switches to solar

Thu, 12/02/15

IFAD has flipped the switch to power up the solar panels on the rooftop of their headquarter offices in Rome.

The panels, which were installed in close collaboration with, and co-funded by, Gemmo - IFAD's maintenance contractor - mean that IFAD will no longer use electric boilers for hot water during summer. The new system will satisfy approximately 40% of IFAD's hot water demand and reduce  natural-gas usage during winter.

In switching to solar, IFAD has taken another step forward towards reducing the organization's impact on the environment whilst also saving money and earning precious points towards LEED re-certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for green buildings.

Describing the achievement, Kåre Pugerup, Senior Administrative Officer at IFAD said: “This is a good example of a sustainability joint venture with a contractor to make IFAD greener”.
