WFP: Keeping Cool By Going Green

In addition to alleviating global hunger, the World Food Programme (WFP) is also contributing to efforts to create a more sustainable United Nations.

WFP’s Armenia office provides an excellent example of WFPs approach: using energy efficiency and procurement processes to create a greener office. By replacing their old and inefficient air conditioning system with an eco-friendly one, WFP Armenia has set the standards for the sustainable procurement of air conditioning.

The decision proved to be both environmentally and financially beneficial to the organization and staff members, and should encourage fellow UN agencies to follow suit.
