Greenhouse Gas Emissions Assessment Across 3 Scopes

Comprehensive reporting of greenhouse gas emissions is crucial for effective climate action. While the United Nations has focused mainly on monitoring Scope 1 and 2 emissions, the inclusion of Scope 3 emissions has become increasingly vital for gaining a holistic understanding of its environmental impact. By acknowledging the significance of Scope 3 emissions, particularly those originating from procurement and supply chains, the UN system can pinpoint areas for improvement and promote sustainable practices across its operations.

To support UN entities in their greenhouse gas assessment efforts, the Sustainable UN (SUN) Facility Team at UNEP has developed an overview document on Scope 3 emissions.
