The UN Procurement Awards, an initiative coordinated by a cross-agency Project Team within the High-Level Committee on Management’s Procurement Network’s (HLCM-PN) Professional Development working group, have expanded to two award categories for 2023 – Sustainable Procurement and Supply and Collaborative Procurement.
The Sustainable Procurement and Supply award category rewards procurement and supply chain initiatives that are compatible and in favour of the protection of the environment, of social progress and in support of economic development. It recognizes successful and value-adding Sustainable Procurement and Supply projects.
The Collaborative Procurement award category rewards UN organizations that combine their efforts to undertake procurement in cooperation or share the outcome of a procurement process, achieving better service through economies of scale and reducing inefficiency and duplication across the UN organizations.
In the Sustainable Procurement and Supply category, five teams from across the UN system made the shortlist for the award:
- International Organization for Migration (IOM) - E-waste Project: Greening humanitarian response through repair, recovery and recycling of solar lantern e-waste in displacement settings
- International Labour Organization (ILO) - ILO Employment Intensive Infrastructure Programme
- United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) - Women-Owned Business initiative in Yemen
- United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) - Reduction of plastic waste in deliveries of long-lasting insecticidal mosquitos' nets
- United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) - UNDP’s Sustainable Procurement Index for Health
In the Collaborative Procurement category, four teams from across the UN system made the shortlist for the award:
- UNICEF, United Nations population Fund (UNFPA), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) - Joint development of technical specifications for reusable menstrual cup, disposable pads, reusable pads and tampons UNICEF, UNFPA Joint tendering on reusable menstrual cups
- International Criminal Court (ICC), UNDP, Organization for Security and Co-Operation in Europe (OSCE) - Multilateral collaborative procurement for the expeditious judicial investigation operations in the new situation cases of Sudan and Ukraine in 2022
- UNDP - Collaborative procurement for disability inclusion in Ecuador
- Common Procurement Activities Group (CPAG), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) - Collaborative procurement for the provision of electricity
